Maximum effect for the individual and value on the bottom line – that’s what drives me as coach, author and trainer in business rhetoric
My name is Mette, and it is me who founded business rhetoric as a discipline.
In 2012, I graduated as Master in Rhetoric from the University of Copenhagen, but already started as a speechwriter and coach for Finance Denmark’s director in 2009. In my thesis I examined what characterizes the talented and succesful conductors as leaders and how these insights could be used in the rest of the business community.
I named my thesis “It will never be great musically if it’s not great humanly”. And exactly that point has been pursuing me ever since.
Personality and passion must be part of the professional message
For professional messages to have weight and impact, they must contain personality and passion. And that applies regardless of title, industry and message. President Obama is good at mastering when he speaks.
In 2018 I had the pleasure of talking to him when I worked as a strategist, speechwriter and speaker coach when Obama visited Business Kolding. We talked about the value of rhetoric, speechwriting, and being able to persuade people – especially how important it is for future leaders to be able to create followership and convince stakeholders.
The way to found Business Rhetoric
On my way to founding Business Rhetoric in 2015, I have worked as a consultant, business developer and facilitator for many international network groups of managers and leaders.
Daily meetings, presentations, speeches, video conferences and ‘calls’ move attitudes, stock quotes, companies, projects and people. And that interests me to contribute to.
Over a short period of time I saw about 1500 3-minute presentations from European top and middle managers, and it gave me a pretty good sense of what rhetorical habits and especially bad habits, most professionals carry on the stage and in the meeting rooms when they negotiate, present, have internal and external meetings.
Everyday rhetoric is the most important
Although I (of course) in my rhetorical heart have a passion for the great speeches that change the whole world, set footprints and mental imprints for generations, I found my passion in business and what I would call the important everyday rhetoric.
It is not just political speeches that move people and the world. Daily meetings, presentations, speeches, video conferences and ‘calls’ move attitudes, stock quotes, companies, projects and people. And that interests me to contribute to.
As a trumpet player during 23 years, I know that on top of the right tools, it is hours of dedicated training that separates the second best from the ones who are second to none.
Effective tools + targeted training = success
My starting point is as an advisor, coach and author is that my rhetorical tools, techniques and mindset must be based on everyday important management, sales and communication situations.
My tools must be easy to understand and use – but I have to add: To master something completely takes time, and therefore I am dedicated to training.
